Work Packages
METROFOOD-PP work plan is based on three main blocks) that deal with three main pillars referred to the 3 specific objectives. The three blocks are highly interconnected and the activities are organised in order to ensure that all the coordination and support actions necessary to the decisive and committing planning for the final organisation of METROFOOD-RI will be properly completed. Block activities will be complemented by three transversal work packages, referred to project management (WP1), dissemination (WP15), and ethics (WP16).

BLOCK 1 - Building METROFOOD-RI
BLOCK 1 Includes the activities related to the organisation of the legal entity that will manage the future RI (i.e. ERIC), with the definition of a sound model for the RI governance and funding at both European and National level in order to ensure sustainability.
It is organised in three Work Packages:
- WP2 – METROFOOD-ERIC set up;
- WP3 – Finance;
- WP4 – Policy set up and statute development.
The activities of this block will be performed in close cooperation with the Ministries and (potential) funding agencies in order to ensure contacts with and between the funding agencies and the proper and timeless achievement of the agreements among Countries.
BLOCK 2 - Structuring METROFOOD-RI
BLOCK 2 includes activities aimed at realising the infrastructure as service-oriented organisation, defining the operation for both the whole RI and the National Nodes, as well as the user strategy and access procedures for data, quality and security management. The activities have been defined taking into account the specific nature of METROFOOD-RI as distributed infrastructure with a Hub & Nodes model, and combining a physical and an electronic section working in close cooperation.
It is organised in five WPs:
- WP5 – Infrastructure architecture;
- WP6 – Technical concept and requirements for the Physical Infrastructure;
- WP7 – e-infrastructure development;
- WP8 – Service development and delivery;
- WP9 – Quality & Security management.
BLOCK 3 - Strategic Planning
BLOCK 3 is focused on defining the long-term activities (on a strategic basis) for the future RI and updating the Strategic Research & Innovation Agenda in response to the actual and future challenges in food industry and the Society, with the strategies for engaging users and the impact assessment.
It is organised in five Work Packages:
- WP10 – Research and innovation agenda;
- WP11 – Positioning in the research ecosystem;
- WP12 – Socio-economic benefits;
- WP13 – Risk management;
- WP14 – User engagement and communication strategies.
